America’s Boba Boom!

The first boba tea shop was opened in the United States in 1999, by Taiwanese immigrants Wayne Lin and Stephanie Hsueh. The shop quickly franchised and now has over 30 locations. With its wide variety of flavors, unique aspect of chewy sweets, and appealing visuals, it’s no wonder that the drinks are now so popular.

Dalgona Cookies

The sweet pieces of brown sugar cookie you see in our signature drinks are based on Dalgona cookies. Dalgona has been popular with children in Korea since the 60s. Following the Korean War, it was made by parents as an inexpensive alternative to candy, then later grew to be a popular street food for all ages. Served on a stick, the cookies are molded with a tiny shape inside them like a star or heart. In Korea, usually if a customer can trim the outside using a toothpick, without breaking the shape, they get the dalgona for free! This is why the treat is sometimes referred to as ppopgi, which means “to pick.” Consisting of only sugar and baking soda, it’s simple to make and a staple in our brown sugar drinks!
